Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts (Colossians 3:16). I am sure that the writer of the Letter to the Colossians had me in mind when he wrote these hopeful words aboutLet the message of Christ dwell among you richly.
This passage came home to me after an overnight visit from Alton and Judith Bynum. Alton was my college choir director, quartet coach, and beloved friend. We hadn’t seen each other in many years, but our memories and our love for each other in the Lord is something wonderful to behold. Alton, among others, taught me the life-giving power of singing. It has kept me young, old life, and hopeful – even during times of unfathomable stress. If you are feeling down today – try singing!
