Bypassing the Fingers and Retuning the Strings

It is been nearly 8 years since my spinal cord injury – I am doing fairly well but my hands are still wiped out. My fingers are strong enough and flexible enough to get me through the day – but I can’t play the guitar the way I did before. Instead of waiting around for something that may never happen (healed fingers) I am experimenting with retuning my guitar to “open chords” and employing a slide bar on the guitar neck. My right hand can manage a flat pick and my left hand can manage the slide bar. Don’t think that this is easy – it is not! The point is this: you can’t just sit around waiting for something to happen. Find a way to do it differently – and then – do it! God has always surprised me with unexpected blessings when I have taken this approach to life. I recommend it!
