Social Righteousness

On Sunday I preached on the fifth of six “Great Ends of the Church” in the Constitution of the Presbyterian Church USA. This was interesting because it is the first of our “mission priorities” that gets us out the door of the church and into the community. We start with the proclamation of the gospel for the salvation of humankind, followed by the shelter, nurture, and spiritual fellowship of God’s children. We are then charged to maintain Divine Worship and to preserve the Truth. Social Righteousness is when we act as God’s people for the sake of our community and our world. I am so thankful for organizations like ATLAS Ministries, Habitat for Humanity, The Greene County Coalition – and host recently the Boys and Girls Club of Greene County. I am proud that our church members are involved in all these organizations – I am especially partial to the last one. I have started volunteering on Thursday afternoons, tutoring and generally mentoring impressionable youngsters. I hope you will get involved in something! This is God’s way!
