Every year around the Fourth of July we think about the abundance of our country, our resources – and everything that we treasure. Also, every year I think about the exiles who were carried off from the southern kingdom of Judah. The best and the brightest of them were taken to Babylon where they often languished and wished they could be back at home. In the 29th chapter of Jeremiahs prophecy he reminds the exiles to make the best of it: But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare. This is one of the main reasons I spent so much time involved in tutoring children and working for the prosperity of Greene County. Like it or not – it is my home – and God commands that I take good care of it. I invite you to do the same.
