On Saturday we had a Memorial Service for one of our members. She was active in Presbyterian Women at all levels of our denomination; she was a peacemaker; never met a stranger, and a creative Bible teacher. It was especially wonderful to see her family and old friends looking at pictures on the wall mounted TV in our Fellowship Hall during lunch. Memory is a wonderful gift of God.
On September 11 we mark the 11th anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City. Obviously those who were in the city – and those who lost loved ones – the pain deeply. However, those of us far away cannot get off without exercising our gift of memory and the prayers that follow.
As Christians we are people of memory, remembering the great stories of the Old Testament and the Great Story of Jesus and his sacrificial love for us. My advice to you today – exercise your memory!
