A little later this afternoon the Greene County High School homecoming parade will move up Main Street right in front of my house. I will sit on a porch bench and enjoy the music and the various clubs and organizations that have created floats and other exhibits. Tomorrow night will be the big homecoming football game and the scene of reunions as many alumni “come home.”

As a human family we say goodbye to friends and relatives as they leave us in death. As we get older these events come in faster succession. At the very end of CS Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia there is a “homecoming” of sorts. All the characters that we have experienced throughout the seven stories come together. It sneaks up on you as a bit of a surprise – Lewis completes his story with the reminder that death comes to all of us – but to believers (in Narnia and in Jesus Christ) it is just the beginning – and an incredible homecoming!
