The other day I talked with a man that I went to high school with 50 years ago. He and his family moved from Bridgeport, Connecticut to Newtown, Connecticut 25 years ago and fell in love with that charming community – just 10 miles from where we grew up. He told me about how close-knit a community Newtown is and about how everyone knows everyone – and how many of them even knew the young man who committed the terrible carnage. As we approach the celebration of Jesus’ birth let us make room for the baby whose life was sought by Herod, along with all the other Hebrew children. Violence is a terrible part of life – that Jesus lives. That is enough for joy!
