A Triumph of the Spirit

This week we witnessed one of the best basketball games ever played. The NCAA finals in which the Louisville Cardinals prevailed over the Michigan Wolverines demonstrated a triumph of the spirit that has not recently been seen – and will not likely be seen again for some time. Although I was deeply moved by this stunning athletic contest, because I am a Christian, I am even more moved by the triumph of the spirit that is the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. Easter is not merely one Sunday out of 52 – it is a seven-week season in which the Holy Spirit shapes our lives by means of the post-resurrection appearances of the Lord and, ultimately, his ascent to heaven – and the coming of the Spirit on Pentecost.
