Comforting One Another

The Apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthians that we live in “sympathetic relationship” – at least that is how the famed New Testament translator, JB Phillips, describes it. Paul wrote that when one member of the body suffers, all suffer – and when one member rejoices, all rejoice. As an American family we have seen this acted out over the past week, beginning with our President who served as “comforter in chief” in Boston and in West, Texas. The rest of us, especially those in the affected communities, touched one another’s lives in so many ways. I was especially moved by the amputees who visited other amputees in their hospital room, bringing them joy and hope. For all the horror in our land over the past few days, there is much more potential for good as we live out the ancient words of Scripture.
