Sunday afternoon we had our annual church picnic at the home of one of our members. It is a beautiful farm setting, complete with a large seating area in the back and a you downhill toward a large fishing pond. For some reason we have an uncanny ability to choose – well in advance – rainy days for picnics. However, this did not slow us down one bit. A few of us ate our sumptuous picnic dinner inside but many more ate outside under a second-floor walkway. The highlight of the evening was our Vespers service at the end. After we sang “All Praise to Thee, My God This Night” to close the service we sat for a while listening to the raindrops and watching them on the plants and in the pond. It was a beautiful moment. Sometimes Christians are at their best when they sing in the rain!
