A Life Remembered

This week we at First Presbyterian have lost a good friend. Adora Mills-Powers passed into the Church Triumphant quietly after a brave struggle with cancer. The last time I saw her was just a few days before her death. She had that look of someone who was close to death, but her face shined with a beauty that appears only on those persons who are at peace with God and with their life. As I prayed with her she smiled and moved her lips. Although no sound emerged from her lips I can tell you that she was praying with me – and for me. As we remember her life, comfort her family, and celebrate the resurrection of Christ we too know that nothing can harm us. The opening words of the Brief Statement of Faith in our Book of Confessions begins this way:

In life and in death we belong to God…

This should be enough for any of us.
