Monday’s attack at the Washington Navy Shipyard was yet another in a long series of terrorist attacks in our country that terrorize our population and prove nothing. I am heartbroken by the depth of pain and anger in men’s hearts that makes them do such things. The psalmist says that the heart is deceitfully wicked – who can understand it? Sometimes I wonder if we have just become mean or so self-centered that we believe we can act out anyway we please and for any reason. While control of semiautomatic weapons might be helpful – what we really need is a refashioning of the human heart – a heart that God created and that belongs to God; a heart that is unsettled until it finds its place in God.
