Next Sunday the Christian world will celebrate World Communion Sunday – a time when all Christians everywhere come to the Lord’s Table in a symbolic way, signifying our oneness in Jesus Christ. I think this is especially significant in such a time as this when the nations of the earth are at such odds with each other. From North Korea all the way to the Middle East nations are puffing and blowing and the citizens of those nations are becoming increasingly fearful. I am optimistic about the potential for improved relations between the United States and Iran but I am also a realist. At least for the Christian world, the possibility of new life and peace rests with us who regularly lift up the name of the one we call the Prints of Peace. I hope you will be in your church – wherever that is – next Sunday, and as you take that bread and drink that cup you will remember your responsibility to be a peacemaker.
