A World at Peace?

Friday night we saw the opening extravaganza of the Sochi Winter Olympics. The Russians used the most advanced computer/video/audio technology available and coupled it with legendary Russian music, literature, and a long, rich, social and religious history that is characterized by a deep and profound faith in God. I was baptized in the Russian Orthodox Church and I have visited Orthodox churches in Russia. The Communists were proud of their atheistic non-beliefs and try to squelch the Church. It didn’t work. When I was there in the late 80s there were baptisms being performed in almost every church we visited and young people were everywhere in those same churches. The beauty of the Olympics will be with us for 10 days or so and the nations of the world will compete in a healthy way. As you watch and enjoy the spectacle don’t forget the back story – the back story of faith!
