The Winter Olympic games have come and gone. We have watched diligently and have marveled at the athletic artistry of men and women from all over the world. We have seen moments of incredible virtuosity – of grace in defeat – and of international cooperation that we could only wish would be a reality for all of us. The Olympic Games have provided shining moments for all of us. This Sunday we come to the end of “Ordinary Time” and begin moving toward Lent. However, before we entered the dark, contemplative days of Lent we experience, with our Lord, the bright and shining moment of the Transfiguration. Jesus appears to two of his followers along with Moses and Elijah – a shining moment that portends for them what lies beyond the grave for Jesus. I invite you to begin that journey with me.
