On the Day of Resurrection we had a big crowd, great music, my best efforts at preaching and the celebration of our two sacraments: Baptism and Holy Communion. The next Sunday our crowd was about half, but our attitude was still festive because Easter is not just one day. On the Day of Resurrection we began a seven-week season of Easter – that ends with the Day of Pentecost. We will sing Easter hymns and I will preach on Easter themes as we revel in the wonderful truth that the Lord Jesus Christ is alive and is at work in and among His people. It is unfortunate that we get caught once again in a cultural, commercial trap that limits Easter to chocolate eggs, bunnies, and new clothes – focusing on one day and one day only. We will continue to celebrate the raising of Jesus from the dead – and I invite you to come and celebrate with us!
