This week we will celebrate Halloween. Unlike some churches we Presbyterians take Halloween seriously, not because it espouses satanic activity – of which we believe there is absolutely none. Halloween is important to us because of what happens on the next day. On Halloween people traditionally put out “treats” to ward off the “tricks” of the dead. On November 1 the Christian Church celebrates All Saints Day – the day in which we remember not only the great saints of the church but members of our families and friends who have gone on before us and, in the biblical sense, are cheering us on in our lives and ministries today. I encourage you to take Halloween seriously – because of what happened next!
