At First Presbyterian Church we often talk of ourselves as the Family of God. On Sunday we even sang “We Are the Family of God” to open our worship service. Some years ago when I was a teenager I was part of a large youth group that attracted kids from all kinds of religious backgrounds many of whom gave their hearts to Christ. One boy in particular named Lenny – from a Jewish family became a Christian and was immediately considered “dead” by his family. A church family down the street literally took him in – provided for his housing – and especially his nurture in the faith and his love as part of the family. We Christians are serious about being family – because we believe that God is the one that puts us in families and families of families!
