There is a lovely story in one of CS Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia that features a noble, brave and chivalrous mouse named Reepacheep. More than anything this fine little fellow wants to see Aslan’s country – that place of peace and serenity brought about by the sacrifice of the great Lion, Aslan, who is the Christ figure in these wonderful children’s stories. Last week my wife and I were on vacation in the North Carolina mountains. Every day we enjoyed beautiful mountain scenery, streams and waterfalls that made me think about that little mouse who lived to see that blessed land. Every time I step away from the city and my usual surroundings I realized the length and breadth of God’s country and God’s world. The only appropriate response is – gratitude!
