Praying across the Miles

As I move toward retirement in one month, I have been reflecting on ministries I have started, places I have gone, and people I have come to love. One of those special times in my ministry came in 1996 when I was serving as Associate Executive for Florida Presbytery (the Panhandle). We started a partnership with the Presbytery of the Western Cape in South Africa. My wife and I had occasion to visit the Presbytery in 1996 and formed wonderful friendships.

Eight years later, when I suffered a near fatal spinal cord injury, we received an email that the Western Cape Presbytery had heard of my injury and stopped their need for nearly an hour to pray for me. They promised that their prayers would continue – and I believe they have! If you are a Christian and have allowed yourself to develop relationships far and wide – you are the most fortunate person alive! That certainly as been my experience!
